Jewelry Gift Guide & Small Business Spotlight featuring Rachel Mulherin
It’s gift - giving season and in my mind there is no better gift than a piece of jewelry! Which is why I’m so excited to feature some fantastic female-owned jewelry brands to kick off the holiday season. Each owner was kind enough to answer a few questions about their favorite pieces to give and get and how to wear them this season!
First up is Rachel Mulherin, the queen of all things glam! Read on to learn more about her brand, her favorite pieces, and where to shop!
S&S: Tell me about your brand and what inspired you to start it?
RM: Rachel Mulherin is a the namesake brand I built that strives to bring beauty and a little bit of glam into your everyday life. My main focus is jewelry but we’ve recently startled dabbling in the home decor market as well with vintage finds and large crystals for home. I love things that are truly special and make people feel good and that’s how this all started. I have always been into fashion but I was making jewelry as a hobby for years and doing custom one-off pieces for people that were very personal and it brought me so much joy and allowed me to flex my creativity. After college I took a fashion PR internship in NYC and was thrown into the world of fashion and that really sealed the deal for me that this was something I wanted to pursue full-time. Ever since then I have been making our signature statement earrings and giving people a ‘Holy Glam!’ moment whenever I can.

Why does jewelry make a great gift for the holidays?
I love jewelry because it’s personal. It feels good, it can be a moment, it can tell a story, it doesn’t matter if you gain a few lbs or lose a few lbs, it always fits and it makes you feel beautiful. It can be a birthstone, something customized to their life and interests. Something to mark a special date, anniversary, or accomplishment. You can wear it as often as you want. And so all of that makes it an easy buy and easy to gift to someone.
Which pieces are your go-to for gifting this year and why?
I love anything personal and anything you’ll get a lot of wear out of. As far as necklaces go, I have two routes. First, doing one or two really great basics, like Drew, Cassidy, or Celeste chains that can really provide a great base for a layered necklace moment. Everyone loves these and it’s an easy gift and an easy win. Or going the more personal route and choosing specific charms for someone on our daintier chains. We just introduced new Moons that are actually Emerald and Diamonds or Ruby and Diamonds and we are all obsessed. Either way they will get a lot of use out of that and they can always mix and match necklaces with jewelry they already own.
And I also love the Dorothea charm earrings bc you can customize them and make them super special with birthstones, zodiac signs, initials, favorite stones or colors, etc. So it becomes a very thoughtful, one-of-a-kind gift.

What pieces are you excited to wear this holiday season and how are you styling them?
I’m so excited to wear statement earrings. I feel like this last year or two we have just been in the house and we’re all very comfortable in our style and I’m ready to get glam. The bigger the better. I am currently obsessed with the Amina earrings because they are big and bold and make such a statement. I always source thinner stones for earrings so they are light and easy to wear all night but still make such a moment. If I had to make outfits right now, I’m pairing bold statement earrings - either Amina, Aurora, or Angie - with a sleek statement power suit, or a long sleeve mini dress with a deep V. I also love to do a drastic deep V neckline with layered gold necklaces. I love pairing Drew and Cassidy with a few other sparkly, dainty evil eyes, or the new Emerald + Diamond Moon mixed in. I’m wearing that Moon every chance I get this season.
